Church Wedding Verses for Christian Couples

Wedding Verses

Your church wedding verses can be beautiful and memorable for your wedding. Religion can be an important aspect to some newly-weds for their wedding. For our Christian friends, marriage is a divine covenant with God where sacred vows are exchanged between two people. The Bible provides many verses on marriage advice and how God sees fit for a stable relationship between a husband and wife. Marriage isn’t always smooth sailing, and the Scripture can help to provide guidance and encouragement for our Christian couples during tough times.

Other than providing guidance, the Bible also talks about love and loyalty, which are good to include in your vows or invitation cards or even incorporating love poems from the Bible into your wedding speech.

Bible Church Wedding Verses about Love

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV)

1 Corinthians 13 is a popular verse for weddings as it simply explains what is love in God’s eyes, it is a perfect reminder to the couple how they should treat one another in love according to the Scripture. One way to incorporate these verses into the wedding is to have them written down on wooden boards, and place them along the aisle.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hope, always perseveres.  Love never fails.”

1 John 4:18-19 (NIV)

Love is such a powerful thing. Some couples have gone through tough obstacles together, being there for one another and supporting each other. This verse shows how love is the strongest thing in the world and a reminder of how God’s love for them in the midst of their love for each other.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear. We love because he first loved us.”

Bible Verses on Marriage

Genesis 2:22-24 (NIV)

This passage explained the origin of husband and wife, Adam and Eve. God’s heart behind marriage is for a man and a woman to become one, to be united in the heart that one may provide companionship to the other.

Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.”

Mark 10: 7-9 (NIV)

Marriage is a holy union, not to be broken. This scripture is a reminder and a blessing over the couple for an everlasting marriage.

For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NIV)

This is a lovely passage that illustrates the beauty of marriage, how being together is better than being alone, how having each other’s companion means so much to each other.

Two are better than one. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. 11 Also, if two lies down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

Genesis 1:27-28 (NLT)

This scripture is a reminder and blessing over the marriage for

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”

Bible Church Wedding Verses for the Wives

Ephesians 5:22-24 (NIV)

She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness.  Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!” Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.”

Bible Church Wedding Verses for the Husbands

Ephesians 5:25-28 (NIV)

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.  In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.”

1 Peter 3:7 (NLT)

In the same way, you husbands must give honour to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.”

Love Poems in the Bible

Wedding VersesSong of Solomon 4:9-11

“ You have captured my heart, my treasure, my bride. You hold it hostage with one glance of your eyes, with a single jewel of your necklace. Your love delights me, my treasure, my bride. Your love is better than wine, your perfume more fragrant than spices. Your lips are as sweet as nectar, my bride. Honey and milk are under your tongue. Your clothes are scented  like the cedars of Lebanon.”
