In the heart of Yishun lies the Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea. The Church was built to cater to the growing number of Catholics in the British Naval Base in Sembawang Area. Fr Fortier and Fr Amiotte were pivotal to help in the building of the Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea. The current Church has three priests to cater to over 6000 parishioners.
“To Be a Christ-centered Family That Loves and Serves One Another with Joy and Humility”
The Lady Star of the Sea is an ancient title for the Virgin Mary. The words Star of the Sea are a translation of the Latin title Stella Maris. The title has been in use since at least the early medieval period. She is seen as the “guiding star” on the way to Christ. Many coastal churches are named Stella Maris, and the Virgin Mary is believed to act as a guide and protector of people at sea. And we guess that because the Church of our Lady Star of the Sea was initially meant to cater to Catholics for the British Naval Base in Sembawang, it makes perfect sense to call the Church that.
You would be needed to make a love offering to the Church if you were to hold your wedding at the Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea.
The suggested amount is around $250 as a token or donation. For the priest, it is recommended to give him about $80-$160.
Our Lady Star of the Sea has a music ministry and will able to provide a choir for your church wedding. Vocalists and organ playing combined. The expected costs will be $300-$600.
Having your wedding at the Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea can have special meaning if you have an affiliation to waters. From the exteriors of the Church painted blue, the interiors feel like your’ e on a ship deck. It has two levels to cater for guests as well as a back section to provide for more guests. The march in the aisle for your church wedding is L shaped and not a straight path from the entrance. This sometimes may pose a problem with taking wedding photos and wedding videos.

The Church of St Anthony was built in 1957 to cater to the rising Catholic population in Mandai. With the notice of resettlement, Fr. Khoo appealed to relocate the Church to woodlands. It has moved for a total of 3 times. It now caters to over 4500 parishioners from its humble beginnings
Saint Anthony of Padua or commonly known as Saint Anthony of Lisbon is a Portuguese Catholic priest. He was known for his knowledge of scripture and his love and devotion to the poor.
He is well known to be the patron saint of lost items. It was because of an incident in Bologna. St Anthony had a book of notes for his preaching. Back then, this was the only instrument he had to aid in his teachings. Remember, there wasn’t any printing press or cloud storage. This book was stolen by a thief. Anthony prayed for it to be returned. Miraculously, the thief was so moved by his prayer and devotion that he returned the book in its order. There you have it, that’s why St Anthony is the patron of lost items.
It is important to note that parking is not so much of an issue in the Church. They have a church car park as well as HDB carparks behind the Church. Your wedding in the Church of St Anthony will look amazing with its mosaic tiles decorating especially the walls of the Church. It is brightly lit without the use of lights in the Church.

Back then in Singapore, some masses were held at small shacks on Sundays. On 1964, it was with the help of a well-known architect, Alfred Wong, the Church of the Holy Spirit was officially opened. A plaque was unveiled, and it read “Enter to Worship, Depart to Serve”. It served as an essential reminder of what it means to be Catholic. Father Andrew Wong was given the role of the parish priest in 2005.
The Holy Spirit is the 3rd person of the holy trinity. Commonly referred to as the Lord and giver of life.
The Church is lovely because it has a parish hall and the main church hall. The church main hall would able to cater for a larger congregation whilst a smaller size guest list would be suited for the parish hall. Its main entrance is enormous with high ceilings. It does give a feel of grandness to your church wedding. It has one of the most significant compounds for a Catholic Church. At this point, several constructions were happening around the Church but didn’t affect the vibe.

Located in Toa Payoh, lies the Church of the Rise in Christ. The first mass was conducted in a function hall in 1969. $450,000 was raised to build the Church over a piece of the tendered land in Toa Payoh. Church of the Risen Christ is also home to a renowned choir “Peter Low Choir”, who have gone on tours around the world and sang for the pope in 1985. The Church also houses 2 Allen Digital Pipe Organs. This is something to consider for your church wedding.
The Church was initially named Church of the Resurrection, but it changed to the now christened Church of the Risen Christ. They felt that the Church of the Resurrection was too impersonal and abstract. If you think about it, the Church of the Risen Christ has a better ring to it.
The name RISEN CHRIST expresses in a better way the unique character of the Easter event. We believe in a Risen Christ. We believe that He is alive and that we have a relationship with God through Him.
A wedding in the Church of the risen Christ will look very simple and minimal. Its interior architecture and to the Cross in the main hall looks and feels pure.
Couples wanting to get married at Risen Christ should contact us at least eight months before their wedding to discuss marriage preparation. An initial meeting will be scheduled to discuss the marriage preparation process in more detail.

In case you didn’t know, there are two St Joseph Churches. The other one is in City Hall.
The Church of St Joseph was built in 1846 and came a long way to now. During the Japanese Occupation, the Church became a shelter for marauding Japanese soldiers. After the war, the Church underwent significant reconstruction. In 1995, the Chapel of the Resurrection was built.
St Joseph, as we all know, is a skilled carpenter and it goes to no surprise that St Joseph is regarded as the patron saint of workers and is associated with many feast days.
This is the only Church in Singapore with an outdoor way of the cross The acoustic sound was very good and the place was very serene.
The best part of this Church is that you can see if from afar. There is the central tower that looks like a clock tower with a cross in the centre symbolising a beacon of love and hope. The interiors of the Church is nothing short of majestic. The walkway is a long path and is a great option to have for a wedding.

The Church of Divine Mercy is located in Pasir Ris. It is a relatively new church, opening its doors in 2010.
There is one message the Church of Divine Mercy preaches, and that is God loves us all and for us to acknowledge that his mercy is great than our sins. To be reminded to call on him in times of sorrow, for us to receive his forgiveness.
There are just three steps to follow
A- To ask for mercy
B- Be merciful
C- Completely trust in him

Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour
It was only ten years after the Holy Family was built. Catholics were rising in numbers. More Singaporeans were starting their families in the Siglap area. It marked a time to build a new church.

The Church and the Frankel community had an understanding that the Church would allow free passage through the church grounds to the main road for residents around the area. Hence the Church would remain open throughout the whole day. Renovations were completed in 2000 ushering an air-conditioned hall with a seating capacity of 1,600 parishioners.
Our Lady of Perpetual Succour also means Lady of Perpetual Help. This is a title given representing Mother Mary. The image is that of a Byzantine artwork associated with the Marian apparition.
The town of Almoradi, Spain sought the help of our Mother Mary of Perpetual Help for a young boy who fell ill. He was fed a silk fabric cloth touched to the icon of Perpetual Help in Rome and instantly healed.
You would consider holding your wedding in Our Lady of Perpetual Succour if you were a parishioner here. The Church had very heavy roots in catechism and chances are you were heavily influenced in its teachings. The Church itself is enormous and draws a homely tungsten lighting in its main Sanctuary. The acoustic of the hall is beautiful, and you’ll definitely enjoy the church mass being held at the Church of Perpetual Succour.

He believed that all creatures should praise God and the people have to protect and enjoy nature as both the stewards of God’s creation and as creatures ourselves. In 1224, during his final days, while praying on a mountain, he had a vision and received stigmata.
From the photos, you’ll notice an immaculate layout for your wedding ceremony held in the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi. The light might not be as overflowing as other churches, and we might be a challenge to take group photos due to its elegant interiors.

The Church of St Ignatius is located in the west district. It houses over 4200 parishioners. The Church had its first mass in 1961.
Saint Ignatius of Loyola is a Spanish Catholic priest. He is the patron saint of Catholic soldiers. During his younger days, Ignatius had a great love of the military. He took up arms when he was only 18. During his stint in the army, he was injured by an oncoming cannonball. It was during his recovery that he went through spiritual conversion.
He laid the path and founded the Jesuit order and help spread the good news to the rest of Europe.
The Church itself has a high ceiling, but the colour temperature is warm. The canteen is quite a walk away from the main parish hall and might be a challenge for the older folks.

St Mary of the Angels began at a small hilltop chapel for the friars. The friars chapel became a parish church. It was then named after St Mary of the Angels in Assisi, St Francis’ favourite chapel. It is one of the first parishes established by Franciscans in Singapore. The last renovations were completed in 2004.
The Church of St Mary of the Angels was awarded the Singapore Institute of Architects Religious Building category award in 2004, and Design of the Year award at the first President’s Design Award in 2006.
The Church’s mission is to create a Eucharistic Community, Proclaiming the Gospel to know christ and serve him.
The church sanctuary remains to be one of the best interiors of all the Catholic Churches in Singapore. After it won awards for its architecture, it also has one of the most extended march-in aisles of all the churches. This Church is vast. There are tons of options to shoot your outdoor Prewedding shots around the church premises. The only concern you should have is how to fit more people in this Church of St Mary of the Angels for your church wedding.
Parking spaces for 200 cars are available on the church grounds.

The Church of the Holy Cross is a famous church to hold your church wedding. Located in Clementi Ave. The Church started with a leaking underground pipe. Because of the leaking pipe, it made the land unusable to have high HDB flats built on. It was Father Paul Munier who bid successfully for the property.
The last renovations were completed in 2006. It now houses new stain glass windows and a newly designed translucent cross. Their mission is to be a communion of communities with intentional disciples centred on Jesus Christ.
The Church was named after the Holy Cross on which Jesus died. The Cross was also the theme around which the entire Church was built.
You can check out our photos of Sandy & Nicole who held their Catholic wedding at the Church of the Holy Cross.
The Church of the Holy Cross is once again another beautiful place to hold your church wedding. It has an adjacent open area to hold your lunch reception.

Here some notes when considering your church.
- Availability of catholic church. Do email the church to check for their availability.
- Availability of Priest. Do email the respective priest for their availability.
- Size of the congregation. This is important when filling up the church. A smaller venue or the Parish Hall might be a good option.
Steps to Take
- Sign-up, attend and provide a photocopy of the Engage Encounter or Marriage Preparation Course Cert (see attached MPC Schedules & contact details). You may like to visit their website at http://www.catholic.org.sg/mpc/ for more info.
- 6 months prior to Wedding; Obtain an updated copy of Baptism Extract (for Catholics only – Extract must be 6 months or newer) from your church of Baptism. Please provide them with your Baptism details.
- 5 months prior to the wedding; Arrange with Parish Office for a Prenuptial Meeting with Father. Please submit the EE/MPC cert and Baptism Extract(s) during the Pre-Nup. meeting. Father will sign the ROM Consent to Solemnize Form (attached above). Submit the signed copy to ROM for Cert Collection (see Nbr. 7).
- 3 months prior to the wedding; Register online (www.rom.gov.sg) to fill up the “Invitation to Solemnize Marriage” form.
- Please submit the “Flower Arrangement Form” (attached above) with full-payment asap to secure rights to choice of flowers & colours (in case there is more than 1 wedding on the same day). You may contact Mdm Ginger at 6481 8305 if you have any queries regarding flowers. Couples who do not wish to have special wedding flowers are encouraged to contribute a love offering to defray the cost of the Sunday flowers.
- As for choirs, you may either invite your own choir or choose from the list your Catholic Church provides.
- 3-4 weeks prior to the wedding; Please contact the Wedding Rehearsal Team (Raymund: 9106 9401) to fix a rehearsal date. Please bear in mind that they are volunteers holding stressful day jobs. Would appreciate it very much if you could respect the rehearsal date and time given.
- 3-7 days prior to the wedding; Collect ROM Cert from ROM and submit to the Parish office immediately (ROM will assign a collection date).
- There are no charges for the main church. However, a “Love-Offering” to defray maintenance cost would be much appreciated.
- Cafe form & Lay-out Plan are also attached for your booking (please submit the completed form together with full payment to secure the booking of the Café). We do not provide catering services. Caterers are at your own costs.
- Attached above is also a sample of the Mass Service Booklet for your editing & printing (do not change the Order & Wordings. You may only change the Readings & songs.)
Here is a link if you would like to browse through some sample readings: http://www.foryourmarriage.org/catholic-marriage/planning-a-catholic-wedding/readings/
Please print a copy for Father to vet before bulk printing. Please discuss with Father first and email me if your wedding is a Mass instead of a Service.
