The Cathedral underwent restoration works on the 27th October 2013. As such if you book it now, you’ll be treated to a huge space for your guests.

Do take note that if you’re looking to book your catholic wedding at the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, you can only do so on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. The wedding church mass can only be at 10am. Reservation of date is subject to a first-come-first-serve basis.

The main church building can house over 300 congregation members. It is fully air-conditioned and has electronic sliding doors.  What is great about the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd is that it’s located in the city centre. Your guest would not have any trouble getting to the church.

This is definitely a church worth considering if you’re planning your catholic wedding in Singapore.

The rental cost of the main church is at  $1000. This includes the flower arrangement. However, they do not provide the unity candle which you can purchase separately at the gift shop.

The rental cost of JM Beurel Centre 1st Storey Hall is at $400

Church of Our Lady of Lourdes

Located in Ophir Road, lies the church of our Lady of Lourdes. I have always wondered about the significance of Our Lady of Lourdes, like what is Lourdes?

As it turns out, Lady of Lourdes is a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated in honour of the Marian apparitions that happened in 1858 in the area of Lourdes in France.

It was originally constructed for the demand to the Indian population. It was officially constructed on May 1888. Besides that, it’s located very near MRT stations. If you’re holding your wedding at the church of our Lady of Lourdes, your guests shouldn’t have issues coming on time by public transport.

Having your catholic wedding in Our Lady of Lourdes, your space of the main church hall is small but more intimate. If you have a smaller guest list, having your wedding at Lady of Lourdes is a great option. The length of the walkway is just nice and not too far for the bride to walk down the aisle with her dad. From the pews and windows, it has a very raw, rustic feel to the wedding. It continues to maintain an old school vibe to the ambience.

The Lady of Lourdes is also the church Jade Seah got married in. You can find out more from her blog post here.

In addition, they do have a Parish Multi-Purpose Hall or St Bernadette’s Hall. This is great if you are intending to have a lunch reception and your food caterers can prepare.

Just like the lady of Lourdes, St Bernadette originated from Lourdes France.

Saint Bernadette of Lourdes who first experienced apparitions of a young woman who asked her to build a chapel. The woman identified herself as the Immaculate Conception.

The Church of St. Bernadette, having a  unique structure and a blue-lit crucifix at the topmost structure has become a landmark at Zion Road. It serves over 2800 parishioners. The Church of St. Bernadette is a source of spiritual grace and is a beacon too many. Distinctive of the church are the three bells, inscribed with the names of St. Bernadette and her parents, and the crucifix at the main altar.

The church of St Bernadette architecture is somewhat similar to that of the Church of Lady of Perpetual Succour. The church has a 2nd level where the wedding band can perform. Holding your Catholic wedding church mass in St Bernadette is a very beautiful experience. It is beautifully spaced with great use of a wall to allow light in. Do not be fooled by the exterior of the church, as the interior is modern and sleek. Lastly, if you plan to hold your wedding in St Bernadette, you have to be a member of the church.

Catholic Church

Located at St Michael’s Road in between mazes of roads, lies the church of St Michael.  By mid-1950s, it was realised that there was no place of worship for Catholics between town and Paya Lebar and as such there was a need to built the church. The church was constructed in 1961 and its first mass was celebrated on 1st October 1961.

St Michael is mentioned three times in the Book of Daniel .

Catholics often refer to Michael as “Saint Michael”, a title that does not indicate canonisation. He is generally referred to in Christian litanies as “Saint Michael”, as in the Litany of the Saints. Saint Michael symbolizes the victory of good over evil, and he has been widely represented in art through the ages.

The church resembles a huge bungalow. Chances are you live near St Michael’s or you attend it regularly.  If you’re considering holding your wedding in St Michael Church, it may not be as easily accessible. However, we found it to be a rare gem. It almost feels homely when you enter this wedding Catholic Church. With its high ceiling walls but very rustic feel to the church, there’s a great balance.

Here’s an interesting fact. At the end of the 19th Century, St Peter’s and St Paul’s was the only church serving a large portion of the Chinese community. As an initiative to cater to the Hokkien, Teochew catholic communities in Singapore, St Teresa Church was built.

It is the only Catholic building in Singapore featuring the Romano-Byzantine style, which is defined by the extensive use of grand domes, cupolas, and arches. The church was completed and officially opened on 7 April 1929. The church building was constructed with ferroconcrete to give it a granolithic exterior. The French-made stained glass windows at the back of the sanctuary chronicle the key events in the life of the patron saint of the church, St Teresa of Lisieux, France

The church of St Teresa is named after St Therese of Lisieux, also named Teresa the little flower. She took the religious name of St Teresa of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, because of her devotion to the Infant Jesus, and at the monastery, there was a devotion to the suffering Holy Face of Jesus. Her powerful energy and sensitive spirit were turned toward love, instead of keeping herself happy. At 15, she entered the Carmelite convent in Lisieux to give her whole life to God.

Remember the 1950 Maria Hertogh riots? The church sheltered stranded Caucasians who were affected by the racial riots. They also provided relief and shelter to the people made homeless by the Bukit Ho Swee fire in 1961, the biggest fire in Singapore history to date; as well as provided educational and social welfare services over the years.

The church compound has a sense of serenity and peacefulness with statues of Mother Mary and Saints. There’s a bell tower which the bell will be strike every hour. It is one of the more beautiful church architectures in Singapore as it has a unique Romano-Byzantine architecture style. The whitewashed building is very striking along the road. It is an excellent catholic church for your wedding photos and wedding videos.

Unfortunately, as you can see from our photos, the church is undergoing construction. Hence, you might not be able to hold your catholic wedding in the Church of St Teresa till 2021.

Church of St Peter and Paul

The history of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul is closely linked with the beginning and growth of the Chinese Catholic community in Singapore. The church, with its tower, was constructed between 1869 and 1870. It was erected by the Chinese Catholic Mission serving a congregation of all the Chinese dialect groups and their Indian brethren. It was also a centre for many European missionaries who needed to learn the Chinese language before other postings.

Catholic Church

The latest restoration was completed in 2016. This is a popular wedding catholic church for your wedding. It looks impressively new and clean. It is located right next to Bras Basah station. The church is improved with lightings and air conditioning.

The church became the recipient of the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore’s Architectural heritage award in 2016.

There are several other renovation projects being done around the church premises and as such might be an eyesore. There is a holding room next to the church for the bride to wait until her march in. The walkway is long so you might need rehearsals to get your march in looking perfect.

We found this church to be beautiful to take photos after the mass is over. The main area is big enough to cater for group photos.

However, there is a downside. Planning your wedding in a Catholic church can often be a breeze. However, we particularly have encounters with one of the church’s administrator, let’s call him “Mr L” He can be quite picky and unkind. We would say that this can be quite sad especially when this is a big and happy day. We have heard this in other churches as well, so here’s praying that you may not encounter the unpleasantness.

You can find out more photos from our recent wedding we shot for Bertrand & Venetia at St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church.

Church of the Sacred Heart

Website

Located in tank road, lies the church of the Sacred Heart. The church was completed in 1910. In 2008, a 7½ storey church community building was built to fulfil the needs of the parish community. Costing an estimated $4.5 million, the building was constructed on freehold land and was completed in 2008 with a total floor area of 3,100 square metres. It was designed to blend in with the facade and structure of two existing shop-houses.

It was said that only after a novena to the Sacred Heart was made that the site of an old abandoned soya sauce factory, located behind Fort Canning Hill, was made available for the church.

Catholic Weddings held in the Church of the Sacred Heart must be made with the Parish Office at least one (1) year before the date of the wedding

St Joseph’s Church (Victoria Street)

Website

Catholic Church

Located along Victoria Street in the Rochor Planning Area, lies St Joseph’s Church. It was opened in 1912. As it turns out, St Joseph’s Church is the last of the three Catholic churches in the heart of the city district around to undergo restoration. The other two churches are the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd and the Church of Saints Peter and Paul.

St Joseph is.. the father of Jesus and the husband to Mother Mary.

St Joseph, as we all know, is a skilled carpenter and it goes to no surprise that St Joseph is regarded as the patron saint of workers and is associated with numerous feast days.

Saint Joseph’s Church was built to accommodate 1,500 worshippers, in a Gothic Revival style with a portico supported by four columns and decorated by large marble statues of Saint Joseph.

It is the only Portuguese Church in Singapore and continues to maintain it’s Portuguese traditions and rituals.

Catholic Church

Unfortunately, St Joseph’s Church is closed for restoration work since 1 Aug 2017. There is no news of when it’ll be completed and having your wedding at St Joseph’s Church is not possible.

It’ll be advised to consider the two nearing churches, St Peter’s and St Paul’s & the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd.

Atlas, the Church of Francis Xavier is one of our favourite picks to hold a Catholic Wedding. But unfortunately, as you can see from the pictures, it is undergoing renovations.

Located deep within Serangoon Estate Gardens, lies the Church of Francis Xavier.  The plans to build the church were initiated by Archbishop Olçomendy who purchased the plot of land. It was opened in 1959 and catered to the residents in Serangoon Gardens and thus, it’s hidden deep within.

Francis Xavier was a missionary who founded the Society of Jesus. He remains an integral person to have spread the faith to Southeast Asia and known as the Apostle of the East Indies

The aesthetics of this church has been one of the tops of our picks. From the stained glasses that allow light to flow through the church to the saints that decorate the walls of the church, it feels grand.

The downside is, of course, getting here. It is close to impossible getting here by foot or train. Unless your guests live near the estate, the best way is to grab or carpool. They do have adequate space for parking lots and some places near the estate.

Catholic Church

It is, of course, fantastic to shoot wedding photos as well as wedding videos in the Church of Francis Xavier. It is spacious to accommodate group photos. The exterior compound is vast to accommodate your bridal party photo shots.

Located in Yio Chu Kang Road, lies the church of St Vincent de Paul. The Church of St Vincent de Paul was blessed and opened by the Archbishop Michael Olçomendy in 1971.

St Vincent de Paul was a French Catholic priest who dedicated himself to serving the poor. Many were inspired by his beliefs and compassion leading to the founding of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. You’ll find this name pops up in charity organisations and events.

The church encompasses 2 storeys which are linked between the lower and higher ground roads. It is still accessible by public transport. The look of this church is clean. The Immaculate Heart of Mary is a name to encompass the virtues and values of Mother Mary. It signifies her joys and sorrows, her virtues and hidden perfections, and, above all, her virginal love for God the Father. Located at Highland Rd lies the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Apart from the need to cater to a growing catholic population, the church’s main goal is to help and spread the good news. It insisted on having its architecture mimick a “kampung spirit”. Hence, you can see no high buildings within this church.

In 2002, the church was opened to the public. It comprises of the main church, a columbarium, basement carpark, presbytery, parish centre, retreat centre and multipurpose hall.

Catholic Church

The interior main hall is huge. If you have a big guest list for your church, having your wedding at Immaculate Heart of Mary won’t be an issue. The compound is big and there’s a canteen to hold your lunch reception. However, the canteen is not air-conditioned.

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is so beautiful. Unfortunately, it’s one of the many churches undergoing renovations. It is designed in the Neo-Gothic style similar to that of the Cathedral of the Good Shephard.

The original Church of Nativity is located in Bethlehem. It holds significant importance as the birthplace of Jesus Christ and holds 4 tombs of Saints ( Jerome, Paula, Eustochium, Eusebius of Cremona)

The church was constructed to cater to the Teochew Chinese churchgoers and was opened in 1901.

We could only have pictures and phoots of their canteen area which is now converted to hold masses. The

Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is considered a fantastic place not just for weddings but prewedding photoshoots as it’s opened to the public. We particularly love that it doesn’t’ require fees or passes to enter, unlike other churches.

Apart from that, if you were to choose an outdoor shoot after your wedding church service at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, you can go over to Punggol Park which is a stone throw away. There, you can take wedding photos and wedding videos of you and your bridal entourage.

The Church of Transfiguration is one of the newest church to be built in Singapore for an estimated cost of $60 million. It opened its doors on 13th April 2017. The church primarily helps to serve the community in Punggol and to the rest of the public. It is tendered at the price of $22 million for a term of 30 years. The church acts as a spiritual sanctuary, a place of prayer, reflection and inspiration for those seeking God. It currently aims to serve about 13,000 to 15,000 parishioners.

The original Church of Transfiguration is located in Israel. It is widely believed that this is the place in which Transfiguration of Christ took place.

This is the event where Christ becomes radiant in glory upon a mountain as he spoke to Elijah and Moses. It is one of the miracles of Jesus Christ and is one of the five major milestones. (Baptism, Transfiguration, Crucifixion, Resurrection and Ascension.)

Catholic Church

Needless to say, this church is almost brand new. It feels pristine and immaculate. The interior feels closely similar to the Church of Divine Mercy. It is easily accessible and is a great choice for having a church wedding in.

Located in Sengkang, lies the Church of St Anne’s. St Anne’s Church has an art ministry arm that decorates the church for certain festive occasions. You can consider using their services for the decoration for your church wedding. It was completed on 26th July 1963. St Anne’s is one of the fastest-growing parishes in the Archdiocese.

Did you know that St Anne was the mother of Mary?

She is mentioned in the Quaran but not named. Her name was only discovered in the New Testament Apocrypha. She is the patron of miners. Why? This is because of the medieval times whereby gold and precious metals were valued. Anne’s womb symbolises the source in which these gold and precious metals were.

Catholic Church

Having your wedding at St Anne’s Church will have a kampung vibe to it. From its design, and the compound, you’re surrounded with a homely feeling. They even have a birdcage for your guests to enjoy. We don’t need to mention that this church is huge. Having to fit a huge congregation is not a problem.

Steps to Take to plan for your Wedding Catholic Church day

  1. Sign-up, attend and provide a photocopy of the Engage Encounter or Marriage Preparation Course Cert (see attached MPC Schedules & contact details). You may like to visit their website at http://www.catholic.org.sg/mpc/ for more info.
  2. 6 months prior to Wedding; Obtain an updated copy of Baptism Extract (for Catholics only – Extract must be 6 months or newer) from your church of Baptism. Please provide them with your Baptism details.
  3. 5 months prior to the wedding; Arrange with Parish Office for a Prenuptial Meeting with Father. Please submit the EE/MPC cert and Baptism Extract(s) during the Pre-Nup. meeting. Father will sign the ROM Consent to Solemnize Form. Submit the signed copy to ROM for Cert Collection.
  4. 3 months prior to the wedding; Register online (www.rom.gov.sg) to fill up the “Invitation to Solemnize Marriage” form.
  5. Please submit the “Flower Arrangement Form” (attached above) with full-payment asap to secure rights to choice of flowers & colours (in case there is more than 1 wedding on the same day).
Here’s a guide to Flowers for your wedding.
Couples who do not wish to have special wedding flowers are encouraged to contribute a love offering to defray the cost of the Sunday flowers.
  6. As for choirs, you may either invite your own choir or choose from the list your Catholic Church provides.
  7. 3-4 weeks prior to the wedding; Please contact the Wedding Rehearsal Team (Raymund: 9106 9401) to fix a rehearsal date. Please bear in mind that they are volunteers holding stressful day jobs. Would appreciate it very much if you could respect the rehearsal date and time given.
  8. 3-7 days prior to the wedding; Collect ROM Cert from ROM and submit to the Parish office immediately (ROM will assign a collection date).
  9. There are no charges for the main church. However, a “Love-Offering” to defray maintenance cost would be much appreciated.
  10. Cafe form & Lay-out Plan are also attached for your booking (please submit the completed form together with full payment to secure the booking of the Café). We do not provide catering services. Caterers are at your own costs.
  11. Attached above is also a sample of the Mass Service Booklet for your editing & printing (do not change the Order & Wordings. You may only change the Readings & songs.)

Here is a link if you would like to browse through some sample readings: http://www.foryourmarriage.org/catholic-marriage/planning-a-catholic-wedding/readings/

Please print a copy for Father to vet before bulk printing. Please discuss with Father first and email me if your wedding is a Mass instead of a Service.
